New sorting instructions in Grenoble Metropolis

Since June 1, 2016, the Metropolis of Grenoble, waste sorting pioneer, asks all its residents to put in the “I sort” bin plastic waste which were not previously recycled. This is an innovation in France.

Now all plastic pots, containers and wraps are recyclable and so to sort. This measure will also help reduce the weight of non-recyclable waste bins. No need to wash packaging, they just have to be empty. For people wishing to convey these new sorting instructions in their collective ownership, their town or other places like schools or restaurants, Grenoble Metropolis offers to download and print a communication kit. Guide, posters and flyers are available on the Metro’s website.

You want to recycle your organic waste ?

Compostage des déchets organiques ménagers

Whether you live in a house or in a building, you can recycle your organic waste (garden waste, food waste, etc.) in a composter or a vermicomposter that will transform them into fertile ground. For condominiums or schools, composters can be installed in a shared space and become a true educational project.

One hundred composting sites have already been set up in the metropolis and you can purchase a composter (one per household) by contacting the free Metro number 0800500027 or book online. You will sign a charter specifying mutual obligations of the Metro and the user and will be given a “bio-bucket” to sort your food waste.
Wood or plastic composters are available for sale from 21€ to 37€ depending on the selected volume, 400 to 1000 liters. Moreover, vermicomposters, composters for large producers and large-capacity bio-buckets are directly sold by the waste prevention team.
Since 2009, Grenoble Metropolis offers free conferences and workshops throughout the city to learn how to make compost.
Out of 300 kilos waste thrown away every year on average in the metropolis, 100 kilos are convertible into compost, or 30%. The garbages weight and cost management could thus be greatly reduced.
