Tunnel du Chambon: reopening for the summer season

While it was closed to traffic for a few months to allow works to continue, the Chambon tunnel, on the Grenoble to Biançon way, is again open temporarily, from 13 July to 21 August 2017. However, bicycles and heavy goods vehicles are prohibited.

For logistical and traditional reasons, the tunnel was temporarily re-opened before the Tour de France was moved into the area. During the week of the Tour, from 13 to 24 July, it will be open permanently to facilitate the passage of the riders and its spectators, thanks to the complete stoppage of works at this period. From July 24, it will only be accessible between 5 am and 9 pm.

From 13 July to 21 August, it is therefore possible to take the link between Bourg d’Oisans and Briançon which will be provided by the rescue route 1091.
The Chambon tunnel will be closed to the public on 21 August at noon so that the Work continues until mid-December, when its full and final opening is foreseen.

‘Since the closure of the tunnel, which had collapsed in April 2015, the Department of Isère, the developer, is continuing the work according to the announced deadlines’ (official site of the department).
